Kindle Discount: A Brief review of the Kindle
As the first month of the 2011 new year comes to an end, I can’t help but reflect upon a major event of the previous year. The Kindle, rumor has it that Amazon has sold over 7 million devices in 2010 alone. That is simply amazing, truly revolutionary in ways many cannot imagine. To better understand the gravity of this device and the precedent it has set we must first consider when the first book, the bible was published.
The Bible, is the first book to have been published ever and serves as a reminder of the day Man began to use paper as a source to publish the written word. It serves as a reminder when man turn from “banging on stones” to writing on paper and that was a truly revolutionary event that changed the way people lived and communicated drastically. This new method of communication made life easier, made education more accessible, and knowledge and information easily transferable.
In 2007, the Amazon Kindle debuted before the world, the Kindle was marketed as the perfect alternative to books and other wireless reading devices on the market. Books, “what could be better than reading on a physical book?”, could an electronic reading device compare, let alone compete with the old fashoned method of reading?
The Kindle was boasted as a revolutionary e-reader and claimed it could compete with Books due to it’s E-Ink Pearl Technology that displayed words exactly how they look on actual books and newspapers. This technology made reading less tedious on the eyes and set the simplistic Kindle apart from it’s competitors that displayed e-books on LCD Screens that usually left you with sore and tired eyes after an hour of reading. It didn’t stop there though, the Kindle offered the ability to adjust font sizes and the 50% improved contrast percentage on the Kindle 3 2010 Model allowed readers to view the display in the sunlight.
Amazon themselves claimed that they were intent on one day having every book ever written available for download on the Kindle. What does this mean? It means the creators of the Kindle which has sold over 7 million last year alone has set a precedent that has revolutioned the way we read today. Amazons ambitions for the Kindle are great and they leave no doubts as to the direction they are looking to lead this new industry into. With the impecable support offerd for the Kindle and a dedicated company focused on pushing this technology to the forefront we can be very confident in the future of convenience.
This era is similar to the music era, it’s no different than what the iPod did to the music industry by making the cd player completely obsolete. There may be quite some time before we stop reading physical books all together but the seed has been planted and the future of electronic reading devices are very clear.
The future of reading lies with wireless reading devices like the Kindle. The Kindle makes reading fun, it makes reading cool, it gives advid readers the ability to carry their entire collection of books with them wherever they go . It has allowed any and everyone to receive the most prominent newspapers and magazine subscriptions straight to their device without having to wait for a delivery guy. If anyone is still contemplating whether or not to get on board the bandwagon, they can continue to sit this one out, continue reading their paper backs and hardcovers that will eventually collect dust and lose it’s cover while the rest of us will embrace the future, saving our book collections in a place where they cannot be ruined.
